Creative agency, Exposure, brought our team into a multi-platform, interactive campaign with 1800 Tequila and artist partner Okuda San Miguel. Part of a decade-long art project, the 1800 Essential Artist Series features original artwork from world-renowned artists canvased on their limited-edition, custom-made bottles. Our team was tasked with the broadcast commercial that would help launch this years artist series.

Exposure reached out at the beginning of Covid when all live-action production came to a halt. Due to these obvious filming constraints, this project utilized all licensed stock footage for the underlying plates. We would experience an unprecedented push toward remote-production during this unknown timeframe for which live-action would be on hiatus. As such, this commercial was produced, executed and delivered in a fully remote environment.

Colouring The World

The original brief called for Okuda's iconic artwork to be integrated throughout urban environments. In keeping with Okuda's creative mantra, we aimed to bring the city to life through his unique palette of works. Once editorial was locked with approved city shots, we moved quickly into color timing, tracking/matchmove, and placement on flat surfaces, as well as 3d sculptures in scene. We also experimented with creating faux reflection maps using Google Street View to stitch together lowres imagery. Okuda's team was extremely generous and collaborative during the project, providing layered files, as well as 3d models of his original work. In the end, we were able to place Okuda's signature artwork throughout Los Angeles, Chicago, New York and parts of South America.
